Above are examples of commissioned ceramic portrait sculptures. I work in a representational style when creating portraits. My goal is to achieve a likeness while reflecting a glimpse of the subject's personality. My portraits have a natural and casual quality that I prefer over formal portraits. They are sculpted from stoneware clay. The work is then fired to become a ceramic sculpture or cast into a bronze sculpture. I work primarily from photographs but I encourage at least one sitting. Home videos and written descriptions of the subject's personality provide me with a deeper connection and understanding of the subject.  Image 1
