Internationally known potter and sculptor, Peter Callas, will conduct
a 2 day ceramic workshop. Peter, an accomplished ceramicist, is the
protégé of world renowned potter Peter Voulkos. His workshops

Quill & Kiln: National Art Competition

This annual exhibition has been recognized as one of the top juried shows in the country.
With $4,000 in cash awarded, the Quill & Kiln draws nationally renowned artists.
Many of the pieces previously showcased in the exhibit are now displayed in
several corporate and private collections throughout the region.
An opening reception will be Friday, October 26 with an art talk beginning at 5:30 pm.
Juror for the competition is internationally renowned potter Peter Callas.

Two of Korea's most talented Onngi Potters will demonstrate their unique skills
during this one day event. A rare opportunity to see these superb craftsman
and their timeless approach to clay.

The workshops begin at 9:30 am and run until 5 pm. The Artists will demonstrate, lecture, show slides, videos,
and answer questions. They  will also create pieces that will be later fired in the Callas Anagama Kiln. It is a
unique opportunity to be in this intimate setting with these internationally renowned Artists. The studio is an 
air conditioned 18th century Moravian barn located near the Delaware Water Gap. Photography and video are
permitted. We kindly ask that you secure your own transportation to and from the studio.

Tea, Tools, and Techniques
June 16 and June 17, 2001
10am-4pm
Brookfield, CT

Potters at all levels will enjoy this special hands on workshop with master wood firing ceramic artist, Peter Callas. Traditional and innovative techniques both on and off the wheel will help students challenge and explore new ideas. Topics covered will include, clay bodies, wood firing techniques, proportions, proper use of tools and important compositional elements from tea ceremony wares to modern sculpture. The instructor will also work one-on-one with students and will demonstrate carving traditional tea bowls using Korean and Japanese techniques.
